Naughty or Nice. Holiday Survival Guide.

Part 4 – Finally!!

One of the best parts of the holidays is that final day when all of that anticipation finally reaches climax!!! The Grande Finale!!! The anticipation of fantasies, no matter if sexual or otherwise, always leads to the excitement and appetite required to devour and enjoy a main course! In fact, research shows time and time again that the longer we have to wait for something, the more likely we are to report enjoying it (which is really unfortunate given that we live in a time of insane convenience and immediate gratification).

Hopefully, we have all practised good boundaries, and are well rested and able to enjoy the feasts and festivities that await us. Having good boundaries also ensures that we have the energy and desire to engage with people around us. After all, there is nothing quite like those joyous family get-togethers, where everyone is in the same room enjoying each other’s company, laughter, and enthusiasm.

No wonder with all of this access to debauchery and excess, many of us make New Year’s resolutions that include weight loss, going to the gym, and ironically enough, practising better boundaries and self-discipline. Not everyone will get the holidays that they imagine, or perhaps the holidays will not go as smoothly as everyone hopes they will go. Often times, when things do not go according to plan, many people will feel let down, upset, sad, or even angry. Unfortunately, not everything always goes according to plan. It is important to remember that although many of us make these plans that they believe will bring joy and happiness, just because everything goes according to plan does not necessarily mean everyone will be happy. It is for this exact reason that people are encouraged to learn to not only dance when it is sunny, but also learn to dance in the rain and snow.

Learning to be creative and flexible, not being attached to outcomes will help ensure that no matter what the outcome, we can find joy and happiness in the journey and even the destination when we get there. As we said on the farm, make hay when the sun shines, and roll in the hay when you can. Ha!!

Enjoy the wonderful holiday season!!!

Come heal, grow and create together
